Advent Day 20 - Figment Coffee Roasters
Good morning and welcome to day 20 of the WBB Advent Calendar!
It's definitely the final countdown now, and today we have a particularly funky coffee indeed! (and also get ready for fomo again because, yup its not available online)
Today we have a new roaster to the advent Figment.
But before we get to the incredibly funky coffee, who are figment?
"Figment was established in 2017 by Neil Glover. The journey to get there however, was not staightforward. Neil shares the Figment origin story below including how a law suit for millions of dollars against him – back when he had no coffee experience and a career in Oil & Gas, led him to a fluke encounter with a “life changing latte”.
The specialty coffee industry absorbed Neil almost immediately, and from from that moment, through the kindness of strangers like Greenway and in particular Russell Hayward at Ascension, opening their and his experience and expertise up without agenda, Neil found an almost instant love of coffee, the industry and the people involved, so much so that he left Oil & Gas and started Figment Coffee back home in Aberdeen.
Our aim is to re-create that magical cup of coffee that changed Neil’s life, for everyone who enters Figments doors or buys our coffee.
To create a place of refuge, where you can find headspace with great coffee and food, hopefully making you feel that little bit better when you leave than you did when you walked in.
We want to source coffee ethically, responsibly and sustainably and to work closely with our suppliers, our customers and local businesses to create something special together."

For all coffees when tasting I used a 18g/225g recipe, which I feel really brought out the best in so many of the coffees I picked for the calendar (if you have a physical WBB advent, you have 22.2g (of course I had to include angel numbers) to play around with)
When I first tasted this at Manchester Coffee Festival, I knew it had to go into the advent because holy (excuse my language) SHIT, this coffee slaps. I've mentioned previously that I'm really enjoying all of these experimental fermentations, and this is no exception. It's wild to me how the flavour of a specific thing really comes through, and the blackberry. Oh it comes through.
It reminds me of drinking a hot blackberry sorbet (which a bit weird but we're rolling and vibing) but specifically the blackberry sorbet from New Forest Ice Cream that I used to eat everyday in summer (and spring, autumn and winter, lets not lie to ourselves) this cup almost comes with a really nostalgic taste for me, and as it cools, it really does go a bit sweet pastry like, and definitely more creamy. It's delicious, and I'm really sad it's not available online.
I was also surprised about how well this coffee held up, as I was a bit worried of it going slightly stale within the calendar being so late in the month, but alas, its still absolutely bloody delicious.
