Advent Day 2 - Hope Espresso
Good morning/afternoon/evening - whenever you happen to be sitting down to read this.
Welcome to the 2nd day of the WBB Advent!
Today we have another roaster that is so incredibly special to me, an inspiration for not just myself, but everyone in the industry.
She's a girl boss hitting the scene hard, and there is nobody I look up to more than my girl Esther.
Here's some info on Hope Espresso
"Brewing Change from Crop to Cup.
At Hope Espresso, we believe coffee is more than just a drink—it’s a journey of passion, innovation, and impact. From crop to cup, countless people around the world are working to make the coffee industry more ethical, sustainable, and inspiring. Our mission is to facilitate these businesses and change the future of coffee.
Through Hope Espresso, you’ll discover the changemakers—farmers, roasters, baristas, and entrepreneurs—who are reshaping coffee culture for the better. And with our support, you can become part of the story too. Whether through groundbreaking sustainability efforts, social initiatives, or bold new approaches to brewing, every business reminds us that every cup of coffee has the potential to create hope."
She also incredibly donated 10% of profit to help the continued struggles in Gaza.
(I told you she's incredible)
More info on the incredible Esther because I couldn't just do a company overview:
"With a remarkable career spanning over 15 years in the coffee industry, Esther has established a reputation as a visionary and leader in the world of specialty coffee. From crop to cup, Esther’s expertise encompasses every aspect of the coffee supply chain, ensuring the highest quality and sustainability in every cup.
Esther has worked in coffee since 2009, from pot-washer to barista, management to operations director, and for the past 4 years has worked as a consultant and trainer helping other coffee businesses grow.
Her passion for coffee is rooted in its people—those who grow it, handle logistics, serve it, and enjoy it. Coffee is integral to our lives, whether it’s for waking up, conducting business, socialising, or sustaining livelihoods worldwide.
She believes a people-focused approach is vital for the sustainability of the coffee industry. This means sourcing coffee ethically, ensuring fair prices for producers, and honouring the hard work along the supply chain through training staff to deliver an exceptional experience to the customer. This approach guarantees that we can continue to enjoy coffee for years to come"
Is there anything this girl can't do?
Anyway, I suppose we should talk about the coffee and not just my slight obsession with Est
Day 2 - Hope Espresso
Origin: Peru
Produced by: Esther Sampertegui
Variety: Caturra
Altitude: 1600MASL
Tastes: Brightness of red raspberry, pear, milk chocolate and white sugar
Lets Brew!
For all coffees when tasting I used a 18g/225g recipe, which I feel really brought out the best in so many of the coffees I picked for the calendar (if you have a physical WBB advent, you have 22.2g (of course I had to include angel numbers) to play around with)
Tastes like:
My immediate reaction to tasting this coffee was PEARS!! (anyone tune in yesterday where I also said I tasted slight pear notes? clearly craving some pears, I'm off to buy some immediately)
In my imagination, all I could picture was sitting in a pear drop to drink this (oh you'll be getting a lot of random rambles like this during this month), it was sweet, juicy, super syrup-y mouthfeel, with a delicious chocolate finish. To sum it up in three words: Fresh, smooth and subtle. A delicious delicate Peru!
Want to try this coffee for yourself? (of course you do)
See you tomorrow at 8am for day 3!
