Advent Day 12 - Brew Crew

Good morning and welcome to day 12 of WBB Advent!

Half way already, how has that happened?

To those who have had my 12 day advent calendar, I really hope you've enjoyed, I hope you've found some new yummy roasters to get all the caffeinated goodies from.

Today we have Brew Crew, who I first met (properly!) at Brighton Coffee Festival this year. I knew after having a few of their coffees they had to go in, as I love the premise behind the company and its run by absolute sweethearts!

So who are Brew Crew?

"While at university, we joined Enactus, a student-led social enterprise, opening our eyes to how business can be a force for good that can have a genuinely positive impact in the world. The coffee industry has a long history of exploitative trade, where producers living in some of the most politically and environmentally challenging parts of the world have to accept unfair trading practices designed to benefit consumers. So we set out to start a business that makes a real, tangible difference to the most important people in the supply chain: the producers!

We partner with coffee importers we share our values in ethical sourcing and providing  coffee with a sustainable future for producers and consumers. Our main importing partners are Covoya, Falcon, Sucafina, Primavera, Omwani and occasionally other importers who provide detailed levels of transparency on their coffee offerings. By partnering with coffee importers that have long standing relationships with small scale coffee producers, this provides financial and logistical support to small-scale coffee farmers. Our aim as a coffee roaster is to find out how we can source coffee that has the greatest benefit for the producers, with our goal in the future to develop more direct trading relationships where these merit a greater outcome for the coffee producers!

Sustainability has become a real buzzword in the coffee industry. For us, sustainability is at the heart of what we want to aim towards as a social enterprise, and this goes far beyond increasing the amount we recycle and minimising waste (although this is still very important). To maximise our impact, at Brew Crew we constantly consider sustainability throughout the entire supply chain, and assess where we can make a difference at each stage."

The Coffee

Ethiopia, Gedeb

Varietal: Heirloom

Altitude: 2150-2200MASL

Tastes: Strawberry, Jasmine, Chocolate

Complex fruity, berry flavours with a sweet floral, chocolatey finish

Let's Brew!

For all coffees when tasting I used a 18g/225g recipe, which I feel really brought out the best in so many of the coffees I picked for the calendar (if you have a physical WBB advent, you have 22.2g (of course I had to include angel numbers) to play around with)

This coffee is bursting with berry sweetness, super bright, super juicy, with a definitely chocolatey finish. This is what I like to describe as an easy drinker, something that I could drink every day, it ticks all the boxes, sweet, smooth, floral and chocolatey.

Its absolutely delicious and if you don't believe me you should find out for yourself.
